The Danube region plays an important role as it contributes to the European feed and food production and its importance will increase. The countries within this region have a predominant rural character with agriculture playing different roles in the economy and society of each of them.
The goal of DanuInteg is to improve the safety, quality and sustainability of food products of animal origin in the Danube countries and to develop technologies for improving the current situation. The strategy includes a comprehensive evaluation of the safety, quality and sustainability of the current production methods. We see a clear need for further research by integrating different important aspects (Figure 1).
